Teaching First Cycle

Your teaching first cycle students, and you struggle with how you should organize each of your classes as well as your global planning. Consult this example. It isn’t perfect, but it will give you an idea of what you can do each class in terms of routine and activities as well as themes that can be worked on during the school year.

Remember this:

  • 1st cycle, year 1: 80% songs / 20% books
  • 1st cycle, year 2: 80% books / 20% songs
  • Young learners have short attention span (especially in the afternoon), make sure to plan many little activities (ex.: routine, activate prior knowledge, song/book, game, song/book, winding down moment, students’ reflection/monitoring). See the document for more explicit information on how to plan a class.
